“That’s interesting,” Euri says as the three of us enter the cafeteria to grab a late lunch. We’ve been working in the Sentinel offices on the article – Euri wants it done before the deadline for her overseas college applications, so she can use it as part of her portfolio.

“What?”

“Drusilla and Sierra and a bunch of their friends are sitting at the Poison Ivy table.” Euri leads me to the salad bar and starts piling our plates with food. She doesn’t even ask me what I’d like anymore – she has all my favorites committed to memory because that’s how fucking awesome she is.

“You’re right. That is interesting.”

Since Saturnalia, Euri and Torsten and I have been eating our lunch in the greenhouse, the art suite, or the Sentinel offices. Euri works on her applications for overseas colleges, Torsten paints, and I think about my revenge plot. Papa Smurf hasn’t been at school much, but Victor and Juliet have continued to hold court over the table in the glass room, although I’ve heard that the number of their friends has dropped. And now…

“Hey, Fergie! Sit with us.”

It’s Sierra, and I know from the way the entire cafeteria goes dead silent that she’s calling me from the Poison Ivy room.

Beside me, Torsten continues to heap his favorite chicken and quinoa salad onto his place, oblivious to the unfolding situation.

I consider my options. On the one hand, sitting at that table after what went down at the showcase feels perfect. But on the other, I don’t really want to hang out in a fishbowl with the whole school staring at me. What if I pick my nose or spill food on my shirt? I just want to right Poison Ivy’s wrongs – I’m not in this to become queen of the school. And from the way Euri stiffens beside me, I know she’s thinking the same thing.

I’m about to say that I’ll catch Sierra later when the cafeteria doors bang open and a pissed-off voice says, “What the fuck are you doing, Sierra? That’s not your table.”

It’s Juliet.

And she sounds just as haughty as ever.

“Oh yeah?” Sierra fires back. “And you’re going to make us move, are you? You want to sit here all by yourself? Who do you have left at this school who wants to sit with you?”

“Victor!” Juliet screeches. “Xavier, Patrick, Cane, get over here! They’re trying to steal our table.”

Her words hang in the silent room. Somewhere near the juice bar, a pencil rolls off the edge of a table and hits the tiles.

Not a single person will stand with Juliet.

I don’t know where Victor is, but I can feel his presence the way I felt him at the showcase. I expect him to speak up for his sister, but he says nothing. And I hate that I feel a little flicker of pride in him for that.

“It’s just a table. It’s not owned by anyone,” Drusilla’s voice joins Sierra. “Poison Ivy has made the rules at Stonehurst Prep for too long.
